Sylvain Coderre, MD, MSc, was born and raised in Ottawa, and did his medical school, Internal Medicine, and Gastroenterology training in Ottawa. In 1997, he moved to Calgary to start a practice in gastroenterology at the Peter Lougheed Hospital,where he is still practicing today. He completed a masters in Medical Education from the University of Calgary in 2000. Since that time, he has taken on a number of educational leadership roles including: Clerkship Director for Internal Medicine (2000-2004); Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (2005-2010); Vice-Chair, Department of Medicine Education (2011-2014). Since July 2014, he has become the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at the Cumming School of Medicine in Calgary. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications, mostly in the area of medical education, specifically in clinical reasoning, skills training, curricular design, and evaluation/blueprinting.
