Robyn Houlden, MD, graduated from the University of Ottawa Medical School and completed a residency in internal medicine and endocrinology in Kingston and Ottawa.  She did a research fellowship in diabetes and clinical trials at the Toronto General Hospital and then went on to pursue a career as a clinician scholar at Queen’s University.  She is actively involved in medical education at all levels and has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards.   She has been an investigator in a number of clinical trials of new therapies and models of health care delivery for diabetes.  She has played a steering role in the Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of diabetes for many years and will be chairing the 2018 version.  In 2002, she was the recipient of the Charles Best Award for her work in improving the quality of life for individuals with diabetes across Canada.
