Karima Khamisa, MD, FRCPC, received her undergraduate BSc degree in Biology at The University of Guelph. She went on to obtain her MD degree at Western University in 2002. She completed postgraduate medical training in internal medicine at Queen’s University in 2005, followed by hematology training at the University of Ottawa in 2008. She joined the Division of Hematology at The Ottawa Hospital in 2009. She works as community hematologist and a consultant hematologist at The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus. Her busy clinical practice focuses on disorders of iron metabolism, platelet disorders, and other benign hematologic conditions. She has been an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa since 2009. She has a keen interest in medical teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level. She has played a pivotal role in revising the third-year clerkship Problem Assisted Learning Modules in Hematology. She sits on the University of Ottawa Hematology Fellowship Training Committee. She is also the Chief Examiner for the 3rd year medical student OSCE (Observed Standardized Clinical Exam). She teaches at the undergraduate level overseas, and is a visiting professor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. In 2014, she achieved the designation of University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Teacher for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
